Mammoth Disposal operates the only “Buyback Center” in Mammoth and Mono County. You bring us your qualifying California Redemption Value (CRV) beverage containers, and our personnel will weigh/measure them and provide you with a total for the monetary value of your items. We also offer free recycling for non-CRV items during our transfer station hours.

California Redemption Value (CRV) Buyback Center

Mammoth Disposal operates the only CRV Buyback Center in Mammoth and Mono County, giving you money back for your recyclable bottles and cans. As a certified recycling center, we accept all CalRecycle‑eligible CRV containers, including glass, aluminum, plastic resins, and certain pouch formats.

Please Note: Out-of-state material is not eligible for CRV. ONLY items sold in California can be redeemed.

Eligible CRV Container Items Include:

  • Beer and malt beverages
  • Wine coolers and distilled spirit coolers
  • Carbonated fruit drinks, water, or soft drinks
  • Non-carbonated fruit drinks, water, or soft drinks
  • Coffee and tea beverages
  • 100% fruit juice less tan 46 oz.
  • Vegetable juice 16 oz. or less
  • Sports drinks
  • Distilled spirits and wine (including sparkling and alcohol removed wine):
    • Bag-in-Box/Bladder
    • Paperboard Carton
    • Multi-Layer Pouch
    • Plastic Resins #1-7 Pouches

CRV Beverage Recycling Guidelines

Check the beverage bottle label for the following:

All items must have their original labels and be empty, clean, and dry.  A valid California ID is required.

To make the process safe and convenient, please have your products sorted by type. All plastic bottles should have lids removed, and glass should be sorted by color.

The CRV values are as follows:

  • Containers less than 24 ounces = 5¢
  • Containers 24 ounces or larger = 10¢
  • Wine or Distilled Spirits in a box, bladder, pouch, or similar container = 25¢

Load Limits

CRV Refunds per Container

By law, customers can bring up to 50 aluminum, 50 glass, 50 plastic, and 50bi-metal CRV containers in a single visit and request to be paid by count.

CRV Refunds by Weight

If recycling more than 50 containers of any one material type, the decision to pay by count or weight is determined by the recycling center operator.

Customers are limited to 100 pounds of aluminum maximum, 100 pounds of plastic maximum, 1,000 pounds of glass maximum, 50 pounds of bag-in-box beverage containers maximum, 25 pounds of multi-layer pouch containers, and 25 pounds of paperboard carton beverage containers maximum.  Customers exceeding the daily limit will be turned away.

Disposal Guidelines

Free Recycling Drop-Off

During transfer station hours, you can recycle non-CRV items for free. Our staff will guide you if you’re unsure where materials belong.

Read the labels on the recycle center bins and put only accepted items in the bin. Place materials loose in the bins – not in paper or plastic bags. Non CRV glass and plastics 1 and 2 can also be brought to the transfer center. These items include wine, liquor, juice, milk and detergent bottles.

Accepted Items:

  • Cardboard – Flattened, non-waxed
  • Paper – Office, newspaper, magazines, books
  • Aluminum
  • Tin
  • Plastic #1 & #2 with container necks (e.g., water bottles, milk jugs, detergent bottles)
  • Glass – All colors
